Field Mission 7: The Queen of Hearts, Call to Arms
![]()
![]() 1. THE ENCROACHING TIDES![]() Three weeks past the celebration of H.R.H. The Queen of Heart's annual celebratory commemortating event of her coronation, the ground begins to violently shake with an unknown pulse. All throughout the kingdom, from the reaches of the Emberwharf to the tiny hamlet of Harrowyn, it's felt. For those of you who've begun to reclaim your memories, you know something just isn't right. The way the world churns, the lack in spots of your own detailed memories, the apprehension and dread that it brings... all of it seems to be one big sign of trouble. Karsus, now known to all as Merlin, the cryptic and helpful (questionable) wizard, resides in the Enchanted Forest, awaiting the Lady of the Lake to give him some sort of sign that she's still out there. As you may have guessed, she's actually Mystra, in hiding, and her role in this story is more important now than ever. Does she know who she is? Is she hating on Magi*Mari as much as everyone else? It's hard to tell. But time is starting to become a scarce resource. You look out to the horizon, and you notice something out of place. The Expanse. It's encroaching at an alarming rate. Around the perimeter of the wall, towns are engulfed into it and lost entirely. This star is dying, becoming consumed. The Evil Queen was right; there's no telling when this would happen, but it was always something that was destined to unfold. And this time, when you look out into the great abyss, it looks back at you. Eyes watching you- all of you, observing. If you haven't recovered your memories by now, a few of them might come rushing in. You can almost make it out. The thing that you've been told to fight. The thing that's been hunting Lucretia and her crew for 100 years. The Hunger's here, and waiting... just outside the bounds of this illusory world. It's time to put a plan that started a year ago into action. It's time to bring magic back to Faerun and take back your stories. But where is that relic? |

Attempt #1:
Consult the spirits will work as stated on the paths page: Roll a 1d20. On a 1-10, the mods may provide information that is partially true or cryptic. On a roll of 11-20, they will answer truthfully, to the best of their current knowledge.
Convincing them over the network:
-If you manage to know who it is and appeal to them directly: DC 11, no bonuses.
-They will not be swayed by a general call to everyone to give up their trinkets, that attempt is an automatic fail.
Attempt #2:
If you don't manage to figure it out, you'll be going down the route of flying around to spot and use Lucas' machine. We'll give you a DC 11 on this one, with a +2 to the result since Lucas' engineering skills have slowly been leveling up along with you.
Meeting up with the person who has the relic:
-Persuasion check to attempt to get it from them peacefully. It's a bit steeper than the challenge ratings before, at a DC 15, but we'll give you a +3 to the result for emphatic duty and calm emotions.
-Fight check to wrangle it out of their hands. Remember, relics have a desirability to be used. It's hard to give it up once it's powered on and functioning, and this one is no different. For a straight up encounter, we'll say that you and the relic holder are evenly matched in terms of path actions. We'll offer a straight up 50-50 shot of this being successful with a DC 10.
-And then, lastly, a DC 11 wisdom save to whomever nabs the relic, just to check and make sure they resist the urge to use it right away and re-start the illusion from scratch. We'd offer bonuses here, but let's face it... y'all haven't had the greatest luck with these so far.

For the wisdom save Batty and I spitballed the idea of Shinji and Mira splitting the roll (as honorary siblings and all that) BUT if that isn't a thing we can do, then we're going with Mira for the roll.

The spirits tell you:
"She who possesses the relic has begun to feel its power in her bones."
Well... at least you know you're looking for someone female! That's a start.
You fly above and look around to see if you can suss out where and who it is. It takes you far, far longer than you were hoping to, as you begin to dodge in and out of close encounters with The Expanse (The Hunger).
But eventually (with a 12), the device begins spinning around furiously as you hone in on an area not far from Kingstown, in an open plane.
When you land, you find.....
Franziska, holding the Bones of Counterfeit Pasts in her hands. You don't know what her motivation is or why she's keeping onto to, but you know it has to be Reclaimed. She can't be persuaded by you two (oof, a 7), which means... you're going to have to fight her. The odds on that were 50-50, but you managed to score a 17, so however that plays out, it's up to you all to figure out!
Congrats, you've nabbed the relic!
Mira goes to hold onto it, but ultimately succumbs to the thrall within (4) She's about to reapply a new glamour over the world and restart everything but! Shinjiro (and perhaps Franziska, now that she's with it) both aim to bolster her. Shinjiro makes the will save with a 16, and resists the Grand Relic's influence.
Score one relic, safe and sound.
Logistically speaking, this is actually a 3-way CTA! Please reach out and thread accordingly between you all. You'll each be receiving a final gachapon token.
